An introduction to the Underlying Principles of IFA’s Protect&Sustain product stewardship initiative

IFA's approach to implementing effective product stewardship relies on strong leadership. As such, each organization taking part in this initiative will be asked to nominate one (or more) focal points, or "pioneers", to lead the development of product stewardship within that business unit.

As the IFA initiative becomes more recognized globally and gathers momentum, a network of contacts should develop around the world. As it does, this web site will facilitate knowledge exchange and experience sharing amongst its members in a virtual setting.

Any user, once logged in, can identify themselves as a P&S Pioneer for their business on their personal profile under My P&S.

There are no specific, prescribed tasks for the company PS leaders and their numbers are not restricted. An organization may choose to have a single focal point, or a whole team. In many ways, the more focal points there are around the world‘s fertilizer industry, the better. Their exact role will be determined within each organization according to the particular requirements of their product stewardship project.

This is a suggested outline of the role:

• an identifiable point of contact for the IFA product stewardship initiative within an organization

• leader for part (if not all) of the product stewardship initiative

• representative of the strong management commitment to the project

• liaison with others within their team and with other company representatives in the fertilizer industry

• an advocate of good product stewardship practices

• a support to others involved in raising product stewardship standards
